Madisonville lowers interest rate related to restaurant tax

citycouncilmeeting rustMADISONVILLE, Ky. (10/23/19) — Madisonville City Council approved an ordinance amendment to lower the restaurant tax late penalty/interest fee to 1 percent per month, which was previously set at 1.5 percent, during a meeting held Monday at City Hall.

The city also approved an emergency expenditure to place two 6-foot corrugated drainage pipes near the ditch off I-69 along Madison Square Drive.

Officials explained two commercial buildings situated near the ditch could become unstable due to the situation. The city will forego competitive bidding to initiate the emergency work.

In other business, the council approved surplus and sale of old police department vehicles, the closure of Lunsford Street, from Arch to Oates, for the 10th Annual Halloween Bash Street Party set for noon-4 p.m. Friday.

Planning and zoning reported 21 permits were issued last month including three new residential and four commercial building construction projects.

Council Chairman Frank Stevenson, standing in for Mayor Kevin Cotton, proclaimed Nov. 1 as “Extra Mile Day” in recognition of community volunteer service.
