Top seeds Poland, Central Valley Academy advance in respective Section III girls soccer tournaments

Central Valley Academy finally broke through on the score sheet 58 minutes into the contest before tacking on a few insurance goals to beat Mt. Markham 4-0 in the Section III Class B first round, Thursday.

Reilly Rich scored two goals and had two assists in the win, her second tying her own school record of 35 goals scored in a single season.

Jazmyn Gillette scored the other two goals and assisted on one as well for the Thunder.

CVA advances to take on South Jefferson on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

In Class D, Poland kept their quest for a fourth straight state title alive as they defeated DeRuyter 6-0.

Lexi Bates had two goals with Jordyn Squire (1g, 1a), Leah Basel (1g, 1a) and Riley Wisheart putting in the others.

The Tornadoes will face McGraw in the semifinals of that tournament on Wednesday, October 30.
